Gower

With a well-deserved reputation as one of the UK’s most beautiful regions, you’ll find the Gower Peninsula just a short journey by car from Swansea in Wales, and it’s easy to see why it was the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the whole of the UK.

Known as the ‘supermodel of British beaches’, Rhossili Bay is that stunning sandy beach you always spot in polls of international beaches, alongside the world’s finest. With the kind of unspoilt beauty that makes you want to fill your lungs with air and just be, this long, gentle arc of sand makes a beautiful place for some time out as a family. After all, it wasn’t named the 10th Best Beach in the World at the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards in 2013 for nothing…

Don’t be fooled by the peace and quiet though, the area’s coastline welcomes some of the most impressive waves you’ll find without venturing abroad, and Llangennith is one of the region’s best-loved spots for a surf. For those of you who are happy to stay out of the sea and enjoy the views on foot, the Gower Peninsula could have been made for walkers. Choose a section of the Wales Coast Path and start your adventure, and be prepared to come across everything from sea views to patches of forest along the way.

With so many ways to get out and about and enjoy the views that inspired Dylan Thomas, it won’t be long before you’re thinking about what you should sample in the way of food during your Gower holiday – and we’re always happy to help fellow foodies. It wouldn’t be a stay in Gower if you didn’t have a nibble of Laverbread, and in case you were wondering – it is seaweed. Trust us though, it’s yummy.
