Grocery
information
The nearest village shop is a
20-minute drive to Fort Augustus, which stocks a good range of
produce, but we recommend a stop in Inverness or Fort William to
buy the bulk of your provisions en-route. If you fly to
Inverness, you will pass a large Tesco on the A96 en-route, which
is open 24 hours a day, every day (even all-night Sunday). Asda is
the only online supermarket that will deliver to the
cabin.
Guests are encouraged to leave
any non-perishable items, so there are few essentials available for
the next guests. Please, be kind enough to replace any everyday
items you finish off during your stay.
The cabin has a tall fridge
freezer to provide plenty of storage space for food during your
stay.
You will find the basics of
salt, pepper, cooking oil, dishcloths, washing-up liquid, soap
powder, tea, coffee and sugar and there are usually items such as
tin foil, cling film and bin bags in the drawers.
Guests are free to use the
picnic basket and rug for days out, as well as the gas BBQ, pizza
oven smoker or fire pit with grill, for alfresco cooking and
dining, we just request that you clean them after
use.
Eco-Friendly
The cabin benefits from the
latest innovations in sustainable energy. Underfloor heating is
powered by an air source heat pump, which also provides the hot
water. A log burner in the lounge provides warmth in even the
coldest temperatures and gives a super-cosy
atmosphere.
As the cabin is situated in
such a remote location, there are no mains water supply, so
rainwater is harvested off the slate roof. The water is stored
safely underground in a 15,000-litre capacity tank and then
pumped into the cabin on demand via several filters. The result is
some of the purest water you will ever find, which has a
refreshingly wonderful taste. Hot water is heated and stored in a
300-litre tank.
Location and
Destination
The mystical Scottish
Highlands is an area of enchanting beauty and magnificent natural
splendour, with Caledonian Cabin sitting enviably only 50m from the
shores of Loch Garry. Guests are spoilt for choice with a plethora
of mountains, moorland and ancient waterways to discover.
Explore the primaeval Loch for
pristine waters and mesmerizing views. Walk along the burn
that trickles past the cabin and find a wonderful Sir
Thomas Telford bridge, giving access to yet more picturesque
woodland and shoreline.
There are a variety of
restaurants locally, which all serve reasonable meals, although
eating in and enjoying the cabin is probably the best
option.
The cabin is gloriously
remote, with the nearest village shop located 20 minutes away in
Fort Augustus, so be sure to stock up on food and essentials when
you get the opportunity.
We are sure you'll enjoy every
minute of your stay here in this magical setting and leave feeling
relaxed, refreshed and ready to plan your next Highland
escape!
