To the south of Lochgilphead is Kilmory Castle which is home to the Argyll and Bute council. The castle garden, Kilmory Woodland Park, is open to the public and is well worth a visit as it houses an Iron Age archaeological site and a network of woodland walks which link the lochside picnic area with one or two bird hides. For the golf enthusiasts amongst you, Lochgilphead has a 9 hole golf course, and continuing our outdoor pursuits theme visit make time to visit nearby Crinan Canal. The 200 year old waterway is 9 miles long and links Ardrishaig with the picturesque village of Crinan. Pick up one of the many boating excursions and enjoy an amazing amount of wildlife whilst on deck. Top tip – pine martens (one of Scotland’s rarest mammals) have been seen in this area so keep your eyes peeled!
